Profile
Michael is a would-be fighter pilot, who became a specialist in local government law and practice in SA and before that in the UK. We could go into more detail, but Michael’s story is best shared in person.
The ability to be decisive and provide corporate leadership from the front is what sets Michael apart from his peers. His approachable and resolving nature has established his sought after, strategic, political, and business advice in contentious, sensitive, and difficult matters to key senior executives across Australia.
For 10 years Michael headed up the in-house legal team at Woodspring District Council in the UK and has provided a similar support role for over 20 years to councils in South Australia. With a particular interest in corporate governance and commercial legal matters in the public sector, Michael is recognised as one of Australia’s leading experts in local government law and practice. This has been acknowledged every year for the past 9 years by his peers in the prestigious Best Lawyers Australia list.
Michael’s work with councils, related entities, a variety of statutory authorities and other non-profit organisations, involves not just ‘black letter’ law but business and strategic advice within the political environment.
Delivering a wide range of workshops, briefings and seminars. Michael has been widely published in local government publications and is a sought-after author and regular speaker at sector conferences both Nationally and within South Australia.
